Twirl | Hi Sooo, I spend a fair amount of time on card pulling & the five of cups popped up as the best fitting love partner for me (cramped between me as the queen of cups & a relationship represented by the knight of cups). My first response was: What!!!?? I need a partner that's depressed and focusses on the past? And I end up soothing him? Boo! But reflecting on this card I am actually seeing better qualities. It would be someone who's experienced hardships and therefore would have a great sensitivity to others. He may be quite sensitive to nostalgic atmospheres and loss. Or might even work in that field of grief. I'm getting a high 'artist type'-feel with this and he may have developed great understanding for other people's pain. It would be someone sensitive to atmosphere and the history of places. And he may have an understanding of how I work and look at things (very emotion based and working with loss and atmosphere). Any other positives you can see in this card? |
athenegoddess | Definitely see it as someone who has been hurt before, and knows what it really means to be in a serious relationship. So he wouldn't take you for granted, but appreciate you completely. |
Jessica2407 | Someone who's known loss, grief,a difficult past that has helped forged and strengthened his personality. Someone who will recognize gold when he meets it.Either because your cards intuitively know you went through the same hardships and perfectly matched you with someone with a wounded heart so that both can heal each other.I often think of the 5 of cups as chiron the healer. |

Thanks. I like how you read that understanding & not taking things for granted quality. quote: Originally posted by Jessica2407: Someone who's known loss, grief,a difficult past that has helped forged and strengthened his personality. Hey Lovely comparison with Chiron there! I'm so intrigued by that planet anyway. I also like how you write hardships may have strengthened his personality. I wouldn't want a relationship to heal each other though, cause I feel I did all my homework, but it would be nice to have a same level of understanding. |
littlecloud | In the Mary-El Tarot the 5 of cups is mostly represented with Chiron. |

Oh, I didn't know! Not do I have that deck by the way. If just came up as well in a 'who am I as a tarot reader'-spread so I just fully took in the Chiron qualities of course (high priestess - five cups - 2 cups). Emotional reader & grief counsellor, get in there, |
VenusDiSirius | Someone...clumsy? Cards can be funny, too. |

Lol! I'm actually known to have spilled food & drinks on men. Someone who can deal with that haha |
hannaramaa | Whenever I get an oppositional card like that I read between the lines of it. So if you got 5 of Cups it could be saying you need a partner that completes you, or you need someone you can complete. This sounds typical but there are some independent partners who prefer not to "need" somebody too. |

Thanks Hanna. I get what you saying with the five referring to division. However I don't want a 'completing' relationship, unless it's meant in a "you compliment each other'-way, since I think completion is a myth and I complete myself/feel complete. The concept on completion comes from a place of lack and need, which is not how I perceive and experience life.

andstuff | Hey, it's an intriguing question actually. I would speculate perhaps it could be a person who is driven by self-exhaustion and self-destruction, somehow drawn towards pain lets say for the love of art. I don't mean masochistic tendencies, just thinking of the Mathers/Golden Dawn image http://api.ning.com/files/7md6R7biN86NY2Bxq6*Y2GUMXtMNTo7PpGOJNOI5dNE1lGCAWeiMabj393DltL-u1tDh8CFfruqVeBy-634RjLLioL0A0DBb/herme.jpg someone who keeps his cups black and empties them so they feel empty a Ian Curtis-like personality if you will you have NN in Scorpio, so you could work your NN around this kind of person. he could be calmed down and soothed by your side. only an idea Also this card corresponds to Mars in Scorpio, so might be something in there as well. |

I like the associations you make with astrology! Intriguing 5 of cups card, especially the reversed pentacle, reversing the elemental experience. I'm afraid I couldn't handle an Ian Curtis, however intriguing. And loss in pleasure: recovering alcoholic, lol. Would fit my neptune in 7th I had a few Scorpio boyfriends, one with severe streaks of depression. And I could imagine a somewhat tormented artist who finds beauty in sorrow. Definitely someone who feels deeply. Thanks for your thoughts!
